Meet Fiona

A calm, experienced presence for an intimate day.

I’m Fiona Tomlinson, a Wānaka-based photographer specialising in intimate elopements and weddings across Wānaka, Queenstown, Central Otago and throughout New Zealand.

After more than 30 years as a professional photographer, I know how to bring calm to moments that can feel exciting, important or unfamiliar. I’ll help with timing, light and location when you need it, then make space for people—and animals—to be themselves.

My approach blends documentary storytelling with an editorial eye: natural images, beautifully composed, without turning a celebration, portrait session or working day into a photoshoot. Clients travelling from Australia, the United States or elsewhere can expect practical local knowledge and clear communication from the first email.

Before returning to Wānaka, I worked as an editorial and commercial photographer in Auckland, photographing for magazines and television as well as actors, presenters, athletes and business leaders. I’m also the photographer and author behind Old Dogs’ Wisdom, published by New Holland Australia.

Beyond elopements, I continue to photograph families, couples, animals, personal branding and commercial work—always with the same natural, unforced approach. Auckland commissions are grouped into selected dates so travel stays efficient and the experience remains personal.

The work has changed over the years, but what matters has not: making people feel at ease and preserving photographs that still feel true decades from now.
