Image Use & Copyright — Fiona Tomlinson Photography Ltd (Client Licence + Permissions)

1) Copyright ownership

Unless we agree otherwise in writing, Fiona Tomlinson Photography Ltd owns copyright in all images created.

This is standard for professional photography.

2) What you receive (your personal-use licence)

When you purchase a session (and once payment is completed), you receive a personal-use licence to:

  • download and store your images

  • share images on personal social media

  • print images for personal use (including gifting prints to family/friends)

This licence is for personal, non-commercial use.

3) What you can’t do without permission (commercial use)

You must not use images for commercial purposes without a separate written licence from us. This includes (for example):

  • business websites, advertising, paid social ads, branding, packaging

  • influencer/affiliate promotions where you’re paid or sponsored

  • publication use by a brand or organisation

  • selling the images or licensing them to others

If you want commercial usage, just ask — we can provide a simple commercial licence and pricing.

4) Editing and filters

You may crop images for sizing and apply light filters for personal sharing, but please don’t:

  • heavily alter colours in a way that misrepresents our work

  • remove watermarks (if any)

  • use the images in a misleading or harmful context

If you need a particular crop or version, ask — we’re happy to help.

5) Social media credit (appreciated, not mandatory)

If you share images online, we appreciate credit/tagging where possible:

6) Portfolio / website / social media permissions (opt-in)

We will only use identifiable client images for our portfolio/website/social media with your permission.

How permission works

Permission may be requested:

  • in writing (text/email), and/or

  • via a tick box in a booking form.

You can withdraw permission for future use at any time. This won’t affect content already published before you withdrew consent.

7) Images involving children

If images include a child/children, a parent or legal guardian must approve any portfolio/social media use.

8) Third-party requests (brands, media, publications)

If someone else requests use of your images (e.g., a brand, publication, or organisation), they must contact us for permission/licensing unless you have a written agreement from us allowing that use.

9) AI training / machine learning

You must not use our images to train AI models or include them in AI datasets or model training without our written permission.

10) Storage, re-delivery, and backups

We generally keep client images indefinitely on a hard drive for archiving, but we cannot guarantee indefinite safekeeping. We recommend you download and back up your images promptly.

If you need re-delivery later, we’ll do our best to help, but availability can’t be guaranteed.
